Function Reference

CURRENT_DATE

A synonym for CURDATE: returns the current date without the time.

MySQL 8.1
CURRENT_DATE[()]

Return value

A date (DATE) in YYYY-MM-DD format

Examples

Today's date

MySQL 8.1
SELECT CURRENT_DATE;

A week ago: interval and number

MySQL 8.1
SELECT CURRENT_DATE - INTERVAL 7 DAY AS week_ago,
	CURRENT_DATE - 7 AS not_a_date;

Details

The parentheses are optional: CURRENT_DATE and CURRENT_DATE() are the same. Unlike PostgreSQL, subtracting a number does not shift the date: CURRENT_DATE - 7 returns the number YYYYMMDD minus 7. To shift it, use an interval: CURRENT_DATE - INTERVAL 7 DAY.
